October 13, 2023 - Opened 2 hours in advance and decanted, since it seemed quite closed at first. It clearly helped. A fresh, elegant and primary expression of Sangiovese, but still with the structure to last for quite a while. Medium+ tannin and acidity, both good integrated. It delivers cherries, cranberries, a little bit of blood orange, some menthol and a understated tone of dried flowers. Good balance and semi long aftertaste. With some air this can be enjoyed with great pleasure already, but will most likely gain in both balance and complexity if saved for a couple of years.

June 8, 2023 - Tasted next to the 2020 Rosso and the 2018 Brunello from Poggio di Sotto. While I give the edge to the Brunello because it had more weight and richness, this 2019 Rosso is something to behold. While it is drinking great now, it will only improve over time in the bottle. A beautiful wine.

May 14, 2023 - First time trying any Poggio Di Sotto wines.

Had this bottle over a few nights in Verona. Nose is pretty shy and doesn’t become particularly sociable with time - mostly I get wood and toast.
The palate is a little more forgiving with deep blue plum, tomato and sweet cedar. Decent acidity but tannins sticking out a little bit now.
I’d leave this well alone for at least 3 years.

February 27, 2023 - Drank in Hong Kong. P&P, and slow-oxed for an hour before pouring.

Unfortunately, this felt quite closed and tight. I guess this shouldn't be surprising, given the age and the vintage, but being a big fan of how expressive the 2018 is I admit to be hoping for something more.

That being said, the characteristic Sangiovese nose of cherries started coming through with a bit of air in the glass. Good structure and balancing acidity; tannins still firm but not aggressive.

There is definite upside to this wine and I can't wait to enjoy it over the next few years. I would revisit it in 2+ years to see where it's at, but this should keep for a long time.
