March 9, 2024 - Heater week; 3/8/2024-3/17/2024 (Chicago, IL): There's a virtue in drinking something like this so young. It's so unabashedly there and in your face, it saves you from having to think too much about it. At first, incredibly oaky, a hint of reduction, and plenty of sweet and broad yellow fruit. Unmistakably a large-scaled wine, with serious density and power. There's just a slight hint of popcorn there, but it's not prominent the way Coche's can be. An oily, thick texture, but balanced by acidity and the sheer amount of extract and concentration. Powerful nose, incredibly depth and breadth, and the way chardonnay really ought to be. This became even more expansive with air, and lost some of the taut oak character from the beginning. About 6 hours later, I finished the last pour, and at that point this had become so intense that it almost felt bitter -- coconut, almond, the whole gamut. "Why can't they all taste like this?" That said, the few of us at the table who have had Coche's preferred it to the DRC.

February 23, 2024 - Jon's 50th Friday Night Dinner: Like a bottle last year, this was exotic and energetic. In a normal dinner, this likely would be WOTN. But tonight it was paired with the 2020, which was otherworldly. Both vintages are truly fantastic.

February 16, 2024 - Jon's 50th Birthday Dinner: Opened for an hour. Nose was very expressive right off the bat with that classic DRC oak signature. Warmer palate compared to the 2020 beside.

February 6, 2024 - En magnum a very strong showing here for the first vintage produced by the Domaine. Initially served up in quite tight glasses the pedigree was apparant nonetheless. A deft touch of vanilla from the new oak, well swallowed by the typical full throttle 19 white Burg fruit, lovely stonefruits on the palate and good acidity to balance the buttery richness. The full package really for a young white and excelled when later transferred into a larger vessel and extended aeration.

January 16, 2024 - Opened in HK. Slow-oxed for a few hours before enjoying.

First experience with this Cuvee, and not disappointed. You can tell the DRC winemaking here, matched with the opulence of Corton-Charlemagne. Rich, buttery, white flowers and well integrated acidity and drinking well already at this young age. The oak is present but not too aggressive either.

I only had one glass, and the age alongside the fact that this is the first Cuvee make it hard to see where this wine will go. It's very good, but I also don't think it's as good as the Montrachet. Of course, terroir is a factor here, and perhaps the CC will improve as DRC's viticultural practices come through in later vintages, or perhaps this wine will evolve into something greater with time. However, at this moment, I think it's a fantastic Corton Charlemagne - but not as compelling as a Coche CC, and not worth the price of entry, unlike my genuine belief that a good vintage DRC Montrachet is worth it if you can afford it.

I feel like there should be upside with age to eke out an extra point, but unsure I'd deliberately seek it out unless a good deal appeared somewhere on a restaurant list. That being said, an incredible treat from V & D - thank you so much!
