Community Tasting Notes 8

February 11, 2010 - Very individualistic wine - slightly cloudy (it is unfiltered) but very light colour - a wonderful nose of cherries, dry soiil and a touch of fungal elements. In the mouth this surprises - pinot-like taste profile but really turned down to a discrete and elegant level that whispers rather than shouts. A touch watery on the palate but this works within the structure of the wine. Good stuff - very different.

December 18, 2009 - Funky barnyard nose, but the fruit is tender and sweet, and there's a depth and dimension here, lovely contemplative wine

    June 16, 2009 - rustic, sweet, juicy, high-toned blueberry

May 26, 2009 - After the two cleaner pinots, the farmyardiness of this was very marked. Gentle on the palate, soft and vibrant at the same time. Not particularly pinot. [Having checked I see that it's not pinot noir at all, but cot and gamay, which makes more sense.]

March 15, 2009 - Lovely nose that opens with air. Nicely balanced, with some rough but not intrusive tannins and good acidity. The Cot seems foremost by far (I believe it's 70/30 Cot and Gamay) and there is a leathery element to the nose and palate. This probably would have been better with a bit of beef or lamb. I also think it might have been better a year ago. Might have been fresher. Still, it's really nice, an interesting wine (the foresty, leathery, herbal Cot and the fresher berries of the Gamay, sadly less in evidence than I would hope) and certainly one I would buy again.

Update: I'm gonna backtrack here a bit. One day later, this wine seems to have evolved in some nice ways. It's fresher-seeming, smoother, and both the fruit and the background herbal-mintiness from last night are more pronounced. Still seems more Cot than Gamay. Lovely.
