April 2, 2024 - Grapefruit, white peach, chamomile, honeysuckle, and lime headline the bouquet. Medium weighted on the palate, it has big acid and a slight textural grit. Flavors run gooseberry, pink grapefruit, flint, and white pepper. While weightier than most New Zealander sauvignon blanc, it doesn’t lack anything in the acid department where it’s linear, racy, and maybe even a little phenolic tart. Extend air does add a bit of fattiness to the wine that reduces the tartness.

March 1, 2023 - Really wakes up your taste buds with bright lemon and grapefruit notes. Nice acidity, great alone or with food. A very consistent wine year-to-year!

February 7, 2023 - My Ranting Ignored, Again! And By Me.

Not long ago I told you how I subscribe to the fact that I rarely leave the house, especially to go to a restaurant or bar to imbibe. Cost, anti-socialism, and the need to shower (I do it, but only when I have to), so when I had to break down and admit that I ventured out once again, I could do no less than admonish myself. So be it. I consider myself reprimanded.

Once landing in a nearby establishment, I ordered their Tenderloin Sliders but was then faced with the question of which wine to choose. Then I recognized an old friend:

    LoveBlock Sauvignon Blanc 2021

On the plus side of things, my old haunt nearby was Morton’s. For those who read my book, you know that Morton’s was the restaurant I took my daughter to for dinner whenever I visited or she came to see me. It was a quiet night and I had a good bit of the bar to myself (lucky me).

As I sat, I questioned why they named the winery LoveBlock. To me, it sounds like a very fun small neighborhood (wink, wink). Obviously, or so I hope, today’s wine was not named for such a rowdy mass of people. Further research confirmed it was nothing more than Erica Crawford’s cute nickname for the vineyard. Affectionately asking “How’s my LoveBlock coming along?” Awww.

Sourced from their sustainably farmed and family-owned estate vineyards in Marlborough’s Lower Dashwood and Lower Waihopai sub-regions, the wine sees about 50% malolactic fermentation to retain its brightness. There was a greenish herbal quality (grassy and pleasant) on the palate with peach, pear, and a hint of ginger. Nice acidity and minerality follow through to a clean and lively finish. I enjoyed it with my Beef Sliders.

If you didn’t know, LoveBlock was the brainchild of Kim and Erica Crawford, the ones who first brought us Kim Crawford wines, having since sold that brand and later started LoveBlock. With a solid lineup of wines to choose from and generally good availability in the states, it is a brand that is worthy of your perusal.

Now I just need to start adhering to my rules and not ignore my rants about drinking and eating out! You should proceed as you wish.

    Cheers
