January 21, 2024 - Dark fruit with balance. Great cheese wine. Can hold its own even after 24 hours. Decant two hours minimum

January 2, 2024 - Surprising. Strong dark fruit notes reminiscent of Cab with oak hints.

May 25, 2023 - Deep ruby w/ a purple hue due to Lagrein's high anthocyanins. Med+ aromas of black cherries, boysenberries, blueberries, black plum, violets, roses, earth & a hint of mocha & spice from some aging in large oak barrels. Dry, but surprisingly fruit-forward for a high altitude wine, w/ med to med+ acidity, alcohol (13.5%) & tannins. Nicely balanced, with med to med+ body, flavor intensity and length, with a juicy yet jammy finish. Easy-drinking, smooth, and very food-friendly. Youthful, it could benefit from additional aging.

March 26, 2023 - A very unique wine with a strange mix of a "fruit bomb" kind of profile, a little goofy and simple, and something with surprising finesse and energery. Only my second Lagrein I think but shares a lot with the other, Erste Neue around the same price. This was a little less complex but also a bit richer without sacrificing freshness.

A very dark purple color and the nose to match, practically smells like the color purple, really "grapey" with a very, very vivid lavender note. Just a punch of slightly candied purple fruit and lavender. It smells dense, but not overripe or cloying.

Palate is really surprising, immediately showing a beam of bright, clean acidity that was totally unexpected after the slightly jammy nose. It's really almost high-toned, and not in an awkward way, just an unusual one.

It's almost like a cute gamay meets an Argentine Malbec or something. It certainly shares that mountain fruit thing where the grapes get really ripe but retain surprising freshness.
