December 18, 2022 - Dark cherry, crushed violets, dried herbs, red berry fruit and preserves coast over dried leaves and forest essence, bolstered by an unmistakable deep ruby pour. The palate introduces blackberries and tarmac to the mineral-driven presentation, driving the sense of place to the forefront, perfectly weighted over medium+ acidity, and framed by strong, polished tannins. The finish is clean, dry, and delicately resonant, playing out in wafts of blackberries, sour cherries, and wet stones that screams for more time in the cellar, or a perfectly crusted filet seared in a healthy amount of butter.

The Margaux region lies on the western edge of the river Gironde and is a smaller sub-appellation of the greater Haut-Médoc region. While the local soils are comprised of the traditional Bordeaux standards, Margaux stands out for the thinness of the region’s soils, forcing the grapes’ roots to grow deeper seeking nourishment amidst excellent drainage. The yield makes up some of the most concentrated, intense, and complex wines. A Château’s best wine in the region is classified as a ‘Grand Vin de Bordeaux’ – seen as the pinnacle expression from the Chateau, and matched in quality only by its price.
Lot 856 is a true Grand Vin de Bordeaux, the same proprietary house blend that fetches triple digits under the source Château’s premier label, bottled on-site at the Château after 12 months in new French oak barrels, with no expense spared. The fruit comes from two vineyard sites; Cabernet Sauvignon planted to marl and limestone soils closer to the river Gironde, the Merlot rooted in cooler inland sandy clay deposits. The result is a wine with a distinct sense of place – a terroir only produced on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, and world renowned, matched by powerful tannins and amazing structure.
Only 200 cases available of this piece of Bordelaise royalty with the structure to age gracefully over the next 25 years. -

November 15, 2022 - Fairly muted in aroma and flavor. Mushroom, earth, and gravel on the nose. Fresh, and very well rounded and balanced on the palate. Easy drinking.
