Community Tasting Notes 7

October 2, 2010 - Still very young and relatively unevolved upon opening. Leather, white pepper, dry earth, rose petals and coffee on the nose. Mouthpuckering tannins at first, but as the wine opened up more blackberry fruit, mint and espresso started to show up on the palate. Spicy peppery notes also were more pronounced and the texture of the wine seemed to thicken up with air. Great acidity - went very well with an heirloom tomato and roasted eggplant salad

September 11, 2010 - Either not a great showing or I just don't enjoy these as much as I used to. Still have tremendous respect for Molettieri, I just haven't enjoyed the last few I was privy to.

June 11, 2008 - sfwine: Aglianico from Campania, Basilicata, Puglia and Molise: Gorgeous nose of dark-toned fruit, menthol, mushroom. Broad-shouldered and completely mouthfilling, a dark, tarry, savory beast of a wine with noticeable but well-integrated oak. Ripe, but with a dark purity missing in the Piano di Montevergine; the Moletierri also lacks that wine's obvious sheen of new oak. The 15% alcohol does not escape notice in the back of the throat. There is still a formidable wall of tannin, but plenty of animal fat should work wonders here. Excellent, if high-octane. My 1/5 in this flight.

August 20, 2007 - Loads of VA and off notes - poorly stored example.

June 22, 2006 - Porty, black fruit nose with an intense raisined note, anise, and graphite. A boldly stated, full palate, cut somewhat short by fierce grape tannins. Youthful, but not lacking in character and quite promising.
