February 28, 2011 - Perhaps I happened upon an exceptionally good bottle, but I found this wine to be more than adequate. Not your typical Chianti, to be sure; it lacks that delicious earthy character even many less expensive examples display. But it has a nice nose of mingled tar, herbs and flowers, a decent color and a pleasant mouthfeel. Not much fruit here, but soft tannins, tar and mineral notes dominate. A nice, smooth finish without any traces of bitterness. Paired very well with pizza and would probably compliment many other Italian dishes as well. A fairly good bargain at $12. I'd buy this again.
