Community Tasting Notes 5

June 9, 2020 - Deep strong color with a gold you. Nose of peaches, green apples, and citrus. Tastes of peaches, Granny Smith apples, lemon, and limestone. Lovely acidity and bright fruit for 19 years old. I’ll try and delicious. In its prime but should last easily another 5 to 7 years.

February 18, 2017 - Rieslingfeier 2017; 2/17/2017-2/18/2017 (NYC): Drank at Rieslingfeier dinner - nice round mouthfeel, with pear pudding, wet stones, and lemon most prominent.

December 12, 2014 - Just a fantastic Spätlese. Pretty much as indiscriminate palate described it - layers of fruit ranging from tarter citrus and apple to riper peach and other stone fruit flavours, augmented by stony mineral elements and more developed creamy notes. Beneath is a spine of bright acids that keeps this incredibly fresh and precise, and the balance is stunning here. Wish I had more.

December 12, 2014 - Nose of stone fruit, orange, apple, and lemon. Palate of rich, ripe peach, apple, loads of salinity, and just a few more developed notes of smokiness. Except for the smokey notes, the texture makes this come across as quite young, with some spritz and very fresh fruit. Excellent acidity and balance, with great acid cut. Delightful and (still) very young.

March 7, 2014 - Nice appearance and aromas, but far too sweet for my expectation of a Nahe Spatlese. Rather one-dimensional and bloated; too much like a grape soda pop. Probably it needs time to lose more baby fat, though one would think 13 years into the vintage would have been enough for that. No off notes, no signs of deterioration, nothing off-putting besides the obvious stated above. Not horrible; just a mild disappointment and not suggestive of a revisit anytime soon. I may put my remaining stock into a Maywine punch this spring.
