February 16, 2024 - Fairest Creatures and Where to Find Them (K&L Wine Merchant - Redwood City): Nose: Ripe and brooding dark red fruits. Deep, dark earth with gently spiced oak and tobacco. The ripeness of the fruits stand tall here, loud and proud.

Palate: Rich and indulgent with dark, ripe red and blue fruits with just enough acidity to keep it fresh and lifted. Black and slightly bitter minerals on the finish, with the red fruits eventually giving off a fresh flare.

Oh, this is TRB alright.. this totally scans. Thank goodness for the acidity here, otherwise this would've been just big. The creature they used for this one makes complete sense. This is a big boy. Might need tons of time for it to settle and maybe lose some baby fat. I'm not familiar with aged TRB wines.. so I don't know if they age gracefully or age like a plum.

February 16, 2024 - Mirror Mirror on Wall, who's the Fairest of them All? (KLWines and Flemings): This format really stresses more the winemaker. When speaking to Jayson, his approach was to move away from the SVD model and instead, showcase the winemaker and the styles of each. When asked about the vineyards, he did not want to disclose the vineyards used in the wines. Winemakers allowed to make the vast majority of the decisions, whether it is barrel choice, new vs old oak, how much juice from which vineyard, etc. Jayson was involved in the final blending for all wines.

There is no mistaking this for a TRB style wine. Nose was a bit shy, but with swirling it comes out. Think of the movie, Hook where the kid is stretching and manipulating Peter Pan's (Robin Williams) face and then saying, "Oh there you are, Peter!" This wine was a bit slutty, sexy. A bit lacking on the finish compared to the other two 19's.
