Community Tasting Notes 5

April 23, 2024 - Seemed pretty tight on the pop 'n pour and it fleshed out a bit as the evening went on. Still, this never really fully unwound, even the next evening (I saved about a glass under vacu-vin). Compared to the 2015 version I tried a few days earlier, this seemed more structured, with less fruit presence, but still Au Bon Climat-like. As I described the 2015, this seemed like an Au Bon Climat Pinot with a RRV flavor profile (which it is!). And that's a very good thing. I still think this needs a bit more time to flesh out. Note to self - wait until 2027+ to open the next bottle.

November 27, 2022 - Still young, this old world style Burgundy from California is coming around !! A great QPR !!
Consumed over 3 days, really benefited from oxygen to soften the acids that will help preserve this Pinot Noir adding to longevity. Perfect unadorned cork, easily removed. Dark burgundy color with moderate clarity. Aromas of cranberry and rose hips. Flavors of bright red berries and Oriental spice with a medium finish. Balanced to the acid side to survive (and improve) over the next decade. Pinot Noir from 5 acres on Lala Panzi Ranch in the Russian River Valley near Healdsburg in Sonoma County planted to 5 Dijon clones: 114, 115, 667, 777, and Pommard. Excellent winemaking from the late great Jim Clendenen and, like his Au Bon Climat, this wine needs time. I will revisit in a year or two and reassess my tasting note.

September 1, 2022 - Deep Berry / Cherry taste, Earthy notes with a hint of clove. Rather unremarkable overall though paired well with spicy pork dish. Quite low tannins and low acidity. Perhaps a bit more bottle time will bring out additional character.
