August 24, 2023 - Napa 2023 - The Sequel; 8/23/2023-8/28/2023: Two different bottles-one opened in the morning from an earlier tasting and one was PnP. I’m guessing the open bottle had 4-5 hrs of air and was outstanding, my favorite of the visit. Blackberry, black cherry, big indeed but refined in way that was balanced. Long finish. Love what Mark Herold did with this in 19. The PnP bottle was a little more boisterous with a slightly higher fruit tone and a few fine tannins hitting the front of the palate. Drink now with 4-5 hr of air or lay down 3-4 years.

October 22, 2022 - NY Wine Experience 2022; 10/20/2022-10/23/2022 (Marriott Marquis): What an absolute hoot it is to listen to Robert Kamen talk about his wine (or more specifically, talk about everything but the wine itself). Half of my tasting note is around the stories rather than the wine itself which is a bigger style Napa mountain cab. Intense and deep. Needs a lot more time for my tastes. But the stories....

October 22, 2022 - NYWE 2022: Lava Block 2019
Big core of pure herbed black cherry great perfumed element. Rich beautiful wine so well balanced and deep with herb spice and nice fresh lift. Delicious stuff. Beautiful balanced and nice sweet fruit with long spice. Special stuff. Wow!

1979 while stoned out of his head he bought this barren property strictly for the view, it was a hay field. Born & grew up in the rough and tumble Bronx. Anthropologist studies was going for PhD. Then spent 11 mos wondering in Afghanistan. Wrote book and turned it into screenplay, Warner bros bought it, came easy to him and life was never the same. 40 years of making grapes on this one plot he bought only for the view. He despises critics and a real off the grid free speaker. An admitted big time career stoner and antiestablishment kind of guy.
