Community Tasting Notes 4

January 4, 2024 - My wife found an unwelcome chemical aroma and rejected the wine. I detected some VA but didn't mind it very much, and so was happy to continue drinking. This has the raspy quality of aglianico, but is lighter-bodied than many other examples, with moderate- to high acidity and an array of red fruit flavors. On day 3, it had smoothed out a bit and my wife found it quite drinkable.

March 26, 2023 - Like a cross breed of fresh Loire Cab Franc and dusty Langhe Nebbiolo.

Lots of little notes that don't often socialize. Graphite, pencil shavings, cherry leather, old attic and moth balls, and cedar lining and a creeping pyrazine thing that takes an extra 7-8 extra seconds to say hello. And also blackberries, crushed rose petals, and salty volcanic soil.

All wrapped up in a big tannin tortilla.

March 14, 2023 - From Slow Wine 2023. I liked the whole line up from this producer. But best of the bunch, by far was the Damaschito 2018 (91+pts) Burgundy colored label. Then came the Gricos 2020 (90+pts) Black label, showing some more black pepper. Then came the Grifalco 2020 (90 pts), more primary and black pepper. None are jammy or fruity.

February 26, 2023 - Solid pizza wine. Cigar/leather notes with sour red and black fruit. Some spices (perhaps clove?) and herbs.
