April 14, 2024 - Ruby red color, raspberry on the nose, 14,5% abv, closed at first opened up after about an hour, tart cherry pie midpalate, medium finish can age a few years lovely wine

January 2, 2023 - Least favorite of the Engel vertical (‘16-19). Some dark fruit here but not as concentrated as the other vintages.

October 16, 2022 - So much for waiting 18 months as noted a few months ago....I REALLY wish I bought more of these when they were closing out. This is one of the best $37 bottles of wine I've had, and I empathize the Engle family, that in all my years visiting Napa I wasn't previously exposed to their wine.

90 mins slow ox shows dark coloring in the glass and a hint of smoked meat on the nose. While this might normally disturb me given the vintage, it improved tonights pairing with coffee rubbed fillets.

As the wine neared three hours of bottle air it softened considerably, accompanied by a dry, front palate tannic bite. I wouldn't decant this unless six friends were getting into this as a pop and pour. Good through 2025+

July 10, 2022 - Right out of the bottle this was incredibly tight and tannic. After nearly 4 hours in the decanter this shows its potential and is much easier to enjoy, but still comes off primal and in need of more time. 89 today, I can easily see this hitting 92 if I can let my remaining bottle rest long enough, and am posting my rating based on potential.

Sharp contrast to the 2016 I popped two or three weeks back, I'll let this sit for at least 18 months before popping my final bottle. While the 2018 might be approachable given the vintage, I'll let my 2019 bottles rest till 2025 or longer.
