Community Tasting Notes 5

February 9, 2024 - This is my third bottle so far. The first was a tank sample as it was nearing time to go to bottle. The second was served blind about 3 months ago and now this one, opened for myself, I'll share some later with others but I have time now to sit with the wine and really get a focused evaluation. I'm gonna land with my first note back from July, which used the words 'rich opulence'. I can sense that here again, as there is both a richness and a concentration with some density. Think yellow and green apple, intense lime, gingery spice. I can see why Brig called this 'cinnamon' in his note when we tasted the bottle last time together as it does have an intensely spicy note that lingers long into the finish. For me it's more gingery than cinnamon. And I'd stop short of labeling this as racy as I did in my last note, and instead call the concentration of the lime intense, with some unctuousness and while the wine doesn't feel heavy, it's got a bit of girth to it. I still feel like this vintage of TG is gonna show well younger, and be more pleasurable for short-term drinking.

December 12, 2023 - Blind: Chris called the producer, vineyard, and vintage blind. Walk off homer.

I'm a big Trout fan. This has all the Trout Gulch notes of tart fruit and acid but the additional cinnamon stick. Very enjoyable

November 10, 2023 - Bookclub (served blind)--Sean (Foretti's in Corona Del Mar): Served blind alongside the new 2021 Kutch Salt Point Chard. While that wine is more atypical for Jamie, the Trout Gulch was more representative of both Jamie's craft and his interpretation of Trout Gulch. It's more racy than the Salt Point, and it imprints much more green apple tone. And there is a citrus profile of oranges, with a spicy expression into the finish. My notes say 'delicious' underlined. I do think thus far, especially with both of these 2021s in front of me last night, that the vintage is more richer for what Jamie has crafted (for sure the Salt Point).

November 2, 2023 - An excellent west Sonoma Coast wine that delivers. Bracing acidity is tempered -- and elevated -- by perfectly ripe fruit aromas and flavors. It's a bit reductive out of the bottle which provides excitement. This is a high quality Chard from a reputable producer at a very reasonable price.

July 10, 2022 - Kutch Verticals--Trout Gulch, McDougall and Falstaff: Part of the vertical we did (non-blind) of Trout Gulch, 2017 -2021. We did not taste the 2016 (no one locally owned it) and the 2021 was a tank sample that Jamie pulled for us and shipped down for the tasting. This 2021 will be bottled in late Fall. Early on this started off with a savory lime, lean pineapple and a little bit of dissolved CO2. And the light amount of new oak this sees was still transmitting a bit of butterscotch into the finish. I then went back to taste this again at about the 3 hour mark and I thought this had really come together, to start to show what might be predictive of where this is headed. There is a rich opulence, kind of like the 2018. Apricot, pear, yellow apple and orange, which is very much like 2018 showed.
