December 31, 2022 - Acid almost gone, but lots of fruit power - Tasted suprisingly good.

October 27, 2022 - Blackberry jam, balsamic, and a subtle vanilla. I drink mostly Northern Rhône Syrah and this also satisfies me with its funk, it just presents in a different way. To my palate this is in a great place.

April 18, 2020 - Mid to deep garnet
Secondary aromas dominate with vanilla, banana, baking spices and twist of liquorice. In amongst this lie raspberry, tayberry, sweet caramel and melted chocolate
More black fruit on entry as the Shiraz kicks in. Richly textured with great depth of fruit, there is a punch and power of Shiraz alongside pepper, moist Xmas cake and that caramel note (more evaporated milk). The soy, balsamic of Grenache, arrives in the mid-palate as the sweetness ups its ante, adding raspberry with some smoke overtones. Juicy, with just enough lively acidity, with sweet, super-soft tannins. The wine is in a great spot right now with a long finish that has a sumptuousness of a dollop of double cream.
Far better than I expected from a 13-year-old wine.

December 24, 2019 - A big, sweet wine. Overwrought. Mouthfeel like heavy cream. Still alive. Duval and Beaucastel work the same grapes, to wildly different results. So terroir really must exist. Like a flabby chateauneuf in a super ripe vintage.
