Community Tasting Notes 5

May 5, 2024 - The wine pours a pale purplish red. It’s translucent and you can read through it, but it is more deeply colored than a rosé. Medium aromatic intensity. Licorice, violets, cured meat, tart cherries, raspberry, cranberry, thyme. Dry. Medium acid. Medium alcohol. Medium body. Medium, fine-grained tannin. Medium+ intensity. Most of the aromas reappear on the palate, but with a lot more juicy red fruit. Medium finish.

October 4, 2023 - This was the worst example of Mourvedre I've ever experienced. It stank!!! My friends were in agreement that it was not corked, Brett, or any other type of taint. It smelled of wet leaves and green stems. It didn't look like Mourvedre either; more like Gamay or a light Pinot Noir. We sent the bottle back, and the purveyor is planning to return the entire multi-case purchase back to the distributor for a refund or credit.

September 29, 2022 - This wine needed more time to breathe before consuming. Perhaps filtering and airating the wine first.

NOSE: incredibly "pretty" for a Mourvedre: red licorice and incense, turning to black licorice with extended air exposure; not funky.

BODY: magenta-ruby color of medium depth; medium to medium-full bodied.

TASTE: smooth; hint of back-end funk (not brett); red-fruited; watermelon Jolly Ranger; very light-tasting for Tablas Creek's Mourvedre.
