March 19, 2024 - Very seductive wine. Nose has smoky redcurrants, a twist of white pepper and, with air, some mushroom duxelles. Palate follows along similar lines, à point now and will hold for a good few year yet. Lovely accompaniment to a cracking Guinea Fowl dish, after 20 mins a lovely umami character builds; a touch of hoi sin and some roasting juices. Hints of cinnamon and a tiny spot of grenadine. Fabulous wine.

July 15, 2023 - Shockingly young. Astonishingly so. All the raw material but decades to go until maturity. Everyone guessed something like 2015. A wine for the grandchildren.

July 4, 2023 - Opened and aerated for 3 hours beforehand. Ruby with minimal lightening at the rim. When first opened a little mustiness and pruniness, but by time we got around to it, a nose that was more powerful than overripe with licorice and ripe black fruit. Definitely large scaled for Burgundy, very sappy, but with more air it seemed less dense. Fantastically vivid, fresh dark red and black fruit with light soil, rising stem notes, and substantial remaining tannin. Formidable, substantial wine that is just at the front end of its peak. No problem at all holding for another 10-15 years, although it will never be an exemplar of delicacy. A Burgundy for Rhône lovers.

Both more green herbs and more succulent fruit against the tannic backdrop on the second night. Even some enlivening citrus shows up. Impressive. Will benefit from more time.

April 23, 2023 - This was on fire after 2.5-3H in decanter. I wouldn’t default to decant 1999 burgundy, and especially not for that long, but the deep deep red colour showed how youthful this was to be….

Once this finally emerged it was a kaleidoscope of red fruit that was fresh, incredibly structured and balanced but still old school. Would recommend to anyone.

March 16, 2023 - From a small capped bottle. Cherry cough drop. , fruit, rustic and spicy, earth and some stink. Cinnamon and green herbs and a bit of green stemmy stuff - medicinal. Lots of structure on the palate - high acid and smooth but assertive tannins - bright red fruits with some cough syrup, cinnamon and red spices. Tart. Nice balance. Stones and minerals. Finish shows red fruits, then some tartness and spices. Pretty classic. Might improve with some more time. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5+?/6, Finish - 5+?/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1-1.5/2 = 16.5-17+?/20.
