January 25, 2023 - Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Chardonnay (alcohol free) (Germany)
Subtle aroma of apple and ginger ale. The slight initial transient effervescence was not off putting. Decent but tart unoaked varietal taste, mainly apple and pear flavours with a hint of orange; definitely a dry and citrusy overall impression despite the stingy pinch of residual sweetness. Good length and decent mouthfeel although a bit flabby in the midsection, not overly complex, yet satisfying. Would pair better with foods that are more typically complemented by leaner Pinot Grigios than richer Chardonnays. Definitely one of the best alcohol free wines that I have tasted although it still falls somewhat short of the real deal.
