July 27, 2023 - Rubber tires on the nose, an oddly savory, fruit-less palate. Brad disagreed, but I think this bottle was flawed, not "closed."

April 16, 2023 - This is a next day tasting note. This was WoTN across a dinner with six wines. This is a sexy wine. Brick orange in color, almost translucent at points. Lovely mouthfeel and flavors of ripe strawberries and flowers. Bravo.

August 26, 2021 - A really refined and powerful Barolo at this point with great flavors of dark fruits, tar and roses. However, even after a long decant, this regal wine is not yet fully integrated and should be held for at least another decade to reach peak. 92++

August 11, 2018 - Red fruit, elegant but intense, sweet fruit, a little tobacco, while it still has plenty of life left, it is drinking very well now.

January 27, 2017 - Young Bartolo and Giuseppe Mascarello Reds with a Special Treat (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Pale, limpid color, but oh, what a magnificent nose-menthol, tobacco leaf, faded red fruit. So Burgundian in the way it packs so much punch and intensity within its light frame. After a greeting of light red fruit, there is complex herb and a wave of acidity, tannin, and stone. Gorgeous, unadorned Nebbiolo, absolutely classic in a traditionalist way, and begging for 20 more years in the bottle. If I were fortunate enough to own this, I'd try mightily to hold off until at least 2030, but it should be really great with enough time. A real treat to have this bottle generously opened by someone attending the tasting.
