October 20, 2019 - 14 years old and time to consume, but still in great shape: Pleasant cherry fruit, slight hints of balsamic, tannins still grippy on the first day (that grittiness is diminished after being open for 5 days). Glad I opened the last bottle and looking forward to younger vintages in the cellar.

September 26, 2018 - Perbacco is Vietti's name for a blend across vineyards and even appellations, and basically consists the leftovers after the best barrels from each vineyard go into the single vineyard bottlings. You might expect those rejected barrels to be thinner, paler colored, muted, less concentrated, more bland, less ageworthy, and best consumed young. But this 2005 Perbacco at 13 years old pours into the glass almost opaque in color. The aromas are a complex and concentrated mix of red and black cherry, black walnut, and black tea. The sip is mouth filling and coating with lively acidity, ample drying tannin, and a smooth texture that is near caressing, with nothing lean, bitter, tight, or suppressive. Overall, while the top Viettis are even greater, this is a highly satisfying joy to drink that has improved to become the best the 2005 has ever tasted, at a fraction of the cost of its superiors.

February 20, 2018 - One of the best wines in a tasting of 20 wines from Northwest Italy, excluding the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations. Langhe is a larger aggregation of numerous appellations that does not identify where the wines come from and usually is bargain priced. This 13 year old Perbacco has aged beautifully, getting darker, softer, richer, integrated, seamless, and more fruit forward, but still has ample acid and tannin that keep the wine dry and well structured. Overall, a fine example of how Lange can be a fine source of affordable high quality Nebbiolos.

August 18, 2017 - Best on the second day, when the fruit more clearly peeks through the tannin, and the finish is sweeter. It may have enough fruit to last another 5 years.

October 23, 2015 - Opened up over a few hours. In a good spot right now.
