November 10, 2023 - This wine really opened up after an hour! Decent!

November 4, 2023 - Cami says…Carmel and a hint of vanilla bean and slight toasted marshmallow on the nose. Full fruit on the first sip that’s creamy, a bit of butter and balanced acid and finishing with a clean, smooth flow of yummy. Because this Chardonnay is so enjoyable it competes with my favorite snack, theatre buttered popcorn.

December 3, 2022 - Given to me as a present by a friend for an extravagant dinner at Kokkari I took him and his wife out to a few weeks ago. He certainly had the resources, and the ability to access, if not have knowledge for, something considerably better. Had a strong sense this wouldn’t be my cup of tea, so I brought this out to dinner with the gifters. Oak, butter, vanilla and sweet apples and pears with a super viscous texture. A glass of it was quaffable, but no more, probably even less desirable with the diverse, high quality, Mexican-inflected fare at Comal than on its own. Wines like this are, for me, the analog of hopped up IPAs: super lazy efforts with obvious flavors drowning out any bit of subtlety and elegance. Leaving aside the spend on this relative to the meal and high quality wines on the other side, there are so many better chards available in the $35 or so range. Once it was given, it was worth a glass to test my suspicions, but if I was paying, hard to imagine I wouldn’t choose any decent Pilsner or lager over it, and I’m far from a beer lover. Although I see the CT window begins in 2024, hard to imagine that the offending elements improve then without the fruit entirely disappearing. Though I take pride in sometimes getting outside of the CT echo chamber and complimenting disfavored labels, that’s a no can do here. Probably not worse than what I would have expected, but not better, either.
