March 23, 2016 - Surprisingly good. Great mix of dark fruits and blueberry, some licorice and earthy funk that blows away, vegetal notes in the mid palate and drying tannins on the finish. Much better than 5 years ago when it was more tannic, very acidic and not as balanced. Didn't care for it then, but age certainly helped it to the point that I wish I had more. Better on day 2 than day one, where the fruit dominates and funky earthy tones disappear. Rate an 88 day 1 and 90 on day 2.

March 27, 2010 - Popped and poured. Nose of tobacco, red and black currants, cedar, green pepper, cherry, dark chocolate. On the palate, sour cherry, tobacco, cedar, red currant, blueberry. Finish with crisp acidity and smooth tannic grip. Oustanding. Tremendous value. Drink of the next 2-3 years.

June 20, 2008 - Not a bad wine after the funk blew off. Very tannic--I probably should have decanted longer than a couple of hours.

March 21, 2008 - I decanted this wine about 5 hours. The nose had blackberry and dirt, a touch of plum, and some tobacco at the end. The palate was silky and had blackberry and black currant, and finished with tobacco and earth.

(Chateau Jonc Blanc Le Rubis Montravail) #2; COLOR-very dark; NOSE-Candy cane; very earthy (chalk, dust, dirt bombs, worms); little tobacco pipe; TASTE-beautiful elegance & polish; brings a beautiful transition of blackberry, blueberry & loose tobacco; also some cranberry; razor sharp tannins on the side of the tongue; great complexity; beautiful tobacco & blueberry flavors; well made, well polished & well executed Bordeaux; very impressed; a real winner & a complete steal; GV-90/91
