Community Tasting Notes 5

April 27, 2024 - Floral on the nose. Bone dry with medium acidity and some salinity on the palate. Coats the mouth and leaves a long finish. This is becoming one of my favorites from Forge.

November 18, 2023 - Tasted at the winery. Lots of mixed citrus notes on the nose and more aromatic than either the Sunrise or the Willow it was tasted alongside. Medium bodied with good definition to the mostly white orchard fruit notes upfront. Mid-body fruit is quite expressive, with a rounded and open mouthfeel, a step above where I expected this vineyard site to be at this stage in its evolution, given the vintage. Tart citrus and acidity through the backside work quite well with the density shown by the mid-body fruit. Balance is overall quite good already, but should continue to improve with time. Additional complexity and differentiation in fruit notes I'd also expect with a bit more time. This was certainly one of the stronger Forge rieslings from the 2021 vintage and I'll plan to open my first from bottle in late Q2 2024.

February 7, 2023 - I've been looking forward to trying these 21s, knowing how cold and wet this vintage was in the Finger Lakes. Unsurprisingly, Forge somehow pulled off (at least this bottle, my first) another terrific Riesling that fits squarely in their canon. An unexpected roundness to this is buoyed by notes of Granny Smith apple, tangerine, peach, flint, and chamomile. Acidity wasn't as high as I'd imagined, but certainly present. Maybe a tad less complex than what I'm accustomed to, but I also think this needs some more time to settle.

October 24, 2022 - Another winner from Forge in this new offering. Aromas of wet slate and pink grapefruit, lots of bright citrus and minerality, with maybe even some Thai basil. Flavors are fruit forward with pineapple, grapefruit pith, and green apple. Racy acidity throughout, nice mineral notes of limestone, and a definite floral presence that I can't quite place. Rather complex and impressively developed for its youth
