April 15, 2023 - Impenetrable black/purple in the glass. Nose is closed to me, even with a long decant. Get some spice and generic black fruit, bit of smoke/meat too. Full bodied big boy on the palate, but a little closed too. Fruit is hiding behind tannin and spice. I get anise and pepper plus a bit of balsamic vibe. High alcohol only reveals itself at the end of the long finish.
Undoubtedly high quality and exceptional QPR. Scored more for promise than anything though as I think it needs a few years. My first Shiraz from noon, drunk for curiosities sake, the rest will be put away for at least 5 years. I found the cabernet much more generous and revealing at the same age. While this was enjoyable I think it's a bit of a waste to open now.
