April 30, 2024 - big billowing nose of cherry, strawberry, blood orange, roses, myriad herbs and spices... dense and full, but somehow elegant and easy at the same time, gorgeous cherry pops on the palate... finish is quite tannic, it firms up and spreads out, and the length is very serious. Obviously not ready, but the great quality of the vintage makes it quite a pleasure already. This is their best Monvigliero since 2013?

March 17, 2024 - 2019 Barolo Check in (My place, Portland OR): The nose is darker and brooding with black cherries, raspberries, licorice, dark red fruits, some olive paste, a touch of pepper notes, and violets. There is good complexity at this time, but it takes a few goes to get everything on the nose and it isn't too expressive. The full bodied feel is a little rougher on the edges and chunky, but with a beautiful and lengthy finish that is backed up with tart, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. Everything is here to be a monster with age, it just isn't getting out of first or second gear right now.

February 4, 2024 - La Festa del Barolo Masterclass (The Pool, NYC): The '19 Monvigliero showed tighter at the Masterclass than the full bottle I tasted last fall. On the nose, I found chalky, dark red berry fruit, red and blue floral tones, and menthol, an interesting profile. It's got real tannic heft on the palate right now, definitely in need of time. I found red berry fruit, mint, wild floral tones with beautiful freshness, medium to high acidity. A lot of energy, but the tannins here are fierce and in need of a lot of cellar time.

February 3, 2024 - Festa dal Barolo 2019 Masterclass (The Pool, Manhattan): Festa dal Barolo Masterclass

A terrific nose. Roses, violets, spice, cherry fruit with a Giacosa like hard candy feel to it. Midweighted expansive yet graceful with terrific depth without weight. Deep and cool on th epaulet with more of the same fruits, florals and some lingering licorice notes on the back end. Beautifully balance. Finishes with firm ripe tannins. Needs tine. Tons of promise here.
