This vintage was missing the touch of Viognier that he used to add to the blend and in addition, this bottle was a little highly acidic and though it had it's (interestingly alluring...to a rhone-freak like me) barnyardy smell, that dissipated and the wine was enjoyable. -

September 10, 2008 - I had totally sworn off Matt G's wines. His recent whites were abysmal but this was really enjoyable. Noticeable syrah flavors. Although the various grapes didn't really meld it was quite a nice drink. Great with burger.

April 29, 2008 - I haven't liked the Garretson wines much of late. Some, despite Matt's argument to the contrary, seemed to me to be spoiled rather than stylistically unique, however, this was an enjoyable, unambitious red. It was a CA Cotes de Rhone with a fresh raspberry flavor that proved an enjoyable accompaniment to grilled marlin. I just wish he wouldn't be so defensive about his brown Roussanne.

February 18, 2008 - a lot like an aus shiraz, the heat on the nose comes across with a definite grapefruit aspect, mouthfeel and finish are good, but not voluptuous like other garretsons. there's not a ton of character here, but it's a sweet very pleasant beverage with mild tannins and wonderful with sausage pizza. will not change your life but the quality here is high for one of their low end wines.
