April 14, 2024 - Morgante's 2020 Nero d'Avola was fermented in stainless steel and briefly aged thereafter in once-used French Allier and Tronçais barriques. Opaque crimson in color, it flaunts an intense aromatic profile of chocolate-covered cherries, blackberries, licorice, allspice and savory herbs. Medium-to-full-bodied, minimally oaked and without alcoholic heat (14.5%), it delivers flavors comparable to the aromas, buttressed with lively acids and a modicum of powdery tannins. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is a terrific expression of Sicily's most important indigenous red grape. Tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, this showed best after 60-90 minutes in carafe. Drink now-2029.
