September 23, 2022 - An hour of air was enough to wake this up, so fresh and pretty! Silky, ripe, elegant fruit, really well balanced and just drinking great right now.

December 6, 2021 - BYO Litteraturhuset (Litteraturhuset i Oslo): Klar, funklende rød.

November 14, 2021 - Popped and poured at a restaurant in Italy, then decanted and drunk over two hours. Initially the nose was showing funk and tertiary notes but they started fading away after 30 minutes. Fully resolved and mature, silky smooth with sour cherries, porcini mushrooms and panfried steak. An elegant medium bodied wine that should be aerated for an hour or more.

April 2, 2021 - Decanted 45 minutes and enjoyed over 2 hours. Very nice and fully mature, with nice fruit and secondaries. I just didn't feel it hit the highs of the best Giacosa wines. Just a little incomplete for me. B+/A-

February 6, 2021 - Popped 4 hours prior to serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale bricking with fine deposits.

Some detectable VAs upfront. Tomato notes.

Lots of fruit as support on palate but still likely some issues with conditions. Will refrain from scoring this.

February 3, 2018 - I opened it about 6 hours before serving and could tell although tight on the nose at that point that it had the the elements to be great in the evening. It had the perfectly balanced medium body, red cherry fruit, and amazingly persistent finish already. With the meal (wild boar based), it was simply magnificent. As expected, the fruit and delicate violet floral character was there. The ability to show both delicacy yet incredible length on the palate is one of the hallmarks of Giacosa. I have only had a couple of red labels, but this is easily in that company. Have it now with the proper air in the lead time or anytime in the next 10-15 years.

December 17, 2017 - Annual Tasting Group Holiday Party (I Nonni, St. Paul, MN): Really enjoyed this. Great nose with dried roses, dried earth, red fruits, perfumed, red berries, deep and layered, balanced and long.

December 16, 2017 - Enjoyed a small taste during an annual holiday tasting event. This was a head turner. Showing surprisingly young, the aromatics were on full display with persistent tannins on a very lengthy finish. Definitely a challenger for wine of the evening.

October 4, 2017 - This wine is tasting very well - clearly showing its age but a wonderful drinking Barolo. Nose is penetratingly rich, full of earth, rose petals and hints of red fruit. Palate is soft, silky, with plenty of red fruit remaining but not at all overwhelming, joined with secondary earthy flavors. Great balance with a long rich palate, mouth-watering and mouth filling, solid with food. Tannins are all gone and what remains is delicious. To my taste, this is in a high plateau. I'm not sure it has the stuffing to significantly improve with age though likely some tertiary flavors will emerge.
