Community Tasting Notes 2

February 20, 2010 - A very mysterious wine . . . Sometimes less is more, and this one is a triumph of subtlety. I made a remark (this one was tasted blind) that I would be surprised if it were a single-varietal because it was so balanced and graceful. Imagine my shock when it was revealed as a Petit Verdot, what a lark. Spiciness akin to aged rum and deep dark hide-and-seek fruit, like baked huckleberry. Amazing finish, with a lingering dustiness that reminded me of my mother's spice cabinet. I love any wine that can turn me so nostalgic, and this one accomplished the feat while revealing so little. 93+

February 17, 2010 - Wines of Washington State (Fort Collins): Served blind; restrained and elusive. Very dark, almost black. Hints of sweet tobacco, leather?, and dark fruits on the nose. A pronounced spiciness, nice fruit, chocolate on the palate. This was elegant, balanced, and beautiful. Tasted between two very showy and ostentation wines, this really held its own and then some. 92-93 WOTN
