Community Tasting Notes 4

January 14, 2024 - Consumed over ~1 1/2 hours, warming from just above fridge temp to cool room temp. Yellow tinged with gold in the glass, and hefty amber-colored crystals on the cork and in the neck. Not as aromatic as I was expecting based on other notes. Medium-plus body and quite dry, with notes of bruised golden apple, mandarins, honey, and a gentle woody bitterness on the back end. Modest acidity for my preferences. An interesting white, and one I'm glad I tried, but probably not one I'd go back for more of versus other S-F options.

November 14, 2023 - An interesting wine, rich, broad shoulders, and with lots of aromatic intensity. Beams of acid and mineral fan out into golden raisin and a bit of turpentine. The oak is not super obtrusive, but still too much for my liking, especially on the nose, and especially as it warms up. But there is much to like about this wine and it’s possible that it will really shine with a few years of aging. 88(-92??)

August 23, 2023 - Gold in color. On the nose: pineapple, mandarin oranges, preserved lemons, toast, vanilla, and a touch of cream. In the mouth: Medium full to full in body, with an acidity that runs through the front to back of the palate that prevents the experience from becoming ponderous. The flavors are bold and there is a palpable concentration on the palate. Warm citrus and tropical fruits along with a pleasant caramelly, toasted marshmallow, type finish that I'm assuming comes from the oak treatment. Lovely balance. The finish is medium in length with a decent complexity.

I have absolutely no frame of reference for Petit Manseng. But overall, this is a wine that is a pleasure to drink that is more than worth a try.

April 16, 2023 - Likely to be a polarizing wine, this is a lovely Petit Manseng that holds its acid-alcohol-weight balance remarkably well. This is neither excessively tropical nor punishingly acidic, nor ponderously heavy. There is a boatload of new oak on this alongside a good but not too chemical ripeness of flavor, and plenty of acid; the end result is a sumptuously textured, richly aromatic wine. Best between fridge and cellar temperature, as it warmed toward room temperature it started to wobble a little. 13.5%, $35.
