Community Tasting Notes 3

May 4, 2012 - Second bottle of this in recent months; same experience as my tasting note below. This wine is still performing well and has a few years left in it.

January 18, 2012 - A pleasing bottle of wine. Good deep taste, a purple taste, a taste like water running through gravel, some sort of hint of port, but only in the smack/savor on the roof of the mouth – not the same as port in the back of the throat – lighter than that, yet still strong, coherent. Bottle notes speak of eucalyptus and mint. I didn’t get any of that – but perhaps some menthol on the nose.

Good stuff, got a few years in it yet, but drinking fine at present.

(Gosh – wrote this note without looking up the wine here on cellartracker, and when I did… I find the other note here also finds port taste but without the alcohol. Aye, there you go.)

February 5, 2007 - NobleRottersSydney - Champers & Reds (Guillaume at Bennelong): {13%, cork} There are no mainstream wines tonight, apparently. Here’s a Rioja with a Strine accent. After 30 months (or was that 300?) in American oak, your vanilla milkshake is ready, sir. It’s lovely soft sweet coconutty oak, true, and it is possible that there’s some cabernet hidden in here somewhere. All soft and furry on the palate. There’s even a hint of porty flavours, but without any alcoholic heat. In all, not a bad wine, despite a rather reticent back palate. But you gotta like the style…
