April 16, 2016 - On opening, this smelled wonderfully of old leather, but the flavor just wasn't there. But with about an hour of air, this changed magically until a rich blend of red fruit, leather and spices. Really nice development for a little while before it eventually went flat again. In my view, this is very nice but past peak.

April 5, 2015 - Rich, nicely balanced. Nutmeg and other spices. A totally lovely wine that continued to sing over three hours. (Decanted 30 minutes before serving.)

May 22, 2014 - Not decanted, but allowed to breathe in bottle and then in glass. Clear medium blood-garnet color. Fabulous bouquet of bright fresh red plums, cherries, raspberries, nutmeg, allspice, cedar, and rose petals. Similar on the palate, wonderful balance and complexity. A truly outstanding wine, aging effortlessly. My #2 tonight.

May 22, 2014 - Beautiful vibrant color; mixed red fruits and earth aromas; fresh lively body of citrus oil, cherry, and berry with drying tannins. The fruit in this wine is long lived but the tannins are eternal!

April 12, 2013 - San Diego WineSpectator.com Offline, 4/12/2013 (San Diego): Clear medium blood-garnet color. Wonderful profile of fresh red fruit, cigar tobacco, river rocks. Fresh and pure with great balance, full body, lingering finish. My #1, group's SECOND PLACE (tie). I guessed aged Bordeaux. This Bordeaux-style wine is the envy of Bordeaux, just like its ancestor in 1976.
