Community Tasting Notes 5

March 5, 2024 - Good crunchy fruity garnacha, acidity spot on for food and a really good everyday red at a very fair price.

October 15, 2023 - Served blind, i guessed xinomavro which is only really partially wrong. This is a delicious, crunchy, medium-bodied red with smoky, rose-petal beaujolais sensibilities and a nice, grippy finish. Lovely with or without food and best served slightly chilled.

June 11, 2023 - Drunk chilled, Beaujolais build is right, bright crunchy, juicy refreshing fruit but with a little more interest on the nose from something herbal. Spot on for a warm afternoon

April 1, 2023 - Light, clear colour. Liquorice, cherry and a bit of fennel on nose. Bright flavours - cherry, a touch of strawberry along with a bit if sweet musk. Light to medium bodied with a nice acid bite. Enjoyable wine.

March 2, 2023 - A 100% Garnacha wine from DO Navarra. Zorzal is located near Corella just over 80km southeast of Logrono and a stone's throw away from the border of La Rioja. This wine is a blend of fruit sourced from vineyards in Corella, Cintrúenigo, Fitero and Lerga and saw no oak treatment with wild yeast driven fermentation.

    Color: Clear, Medium Ruby
Nose: Medium minus intensity, fresh and youthful with notes of red raspberries, fresh plums, bing cherry, lingering garden soil and grass
Palate: Medium intensity, medium+ body, medium minus soft tannin, medium plus acidity with notes of fresh raspberries, cherries, plums and cranberries with some lingering grassiness and soft earthiness with a medium minus length finish.

Overall this is a pretty straightforward textbook Garnacha. Its pleasant and fruity with well integrated tannin and acidity, however the complexity and finish are definitely lacking. Still a good wine that can please a crowd with some nice BBQ chicken or spareribs, but there for $16 CAD there are far better deals in Spain at this price point.
