Community Tasting Notes 5

  • Tobinski Does not like this wine:

November 13, 2023 - OMG #104 (Plymouth, MI): Tasted very dusty, with VA and little to no fruit.

July 16, 2023 - Gently decanted. Initially this is herbaceous tending to whole bunch ashiness though this dissipates with air and time to show brambles, a little dried herbs note and dried plum, savoury spices, leather, earth, sous bois, fruit tea and gentleman's club. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, wild red and black berry fruit, touch of sweet spice, talc textured tannins persists but are near fully resolved, leather, earth and forest floor though there is a sense of freshness here that proves rather charming.

October 8, 2022 - This really had nice cigar, tobacco and fall leaf notes with light red fruit and cedar. The palate is completely silky, and the tannin is just powdery at this point. Shows older than its age, yet the rustic nature and earthy feel of the wine conveys an old school enjoyment. A great showing for something that I came into with very modest expectations.

October 8, 2022 - Tasted blind, I immediately went to St Julien but presumed Gruaud Larose or Talbot from the 60s (64 or 67?) with a voluminous brett, cigar, autumn leaf nose, still with some winsome red fruit. The tannins have totally dissolved, leafing a fallen-leaf, red apple palate and a cigar-tinged finish.

December 21, 2012 - Drank from dads cellar. Still decent but I think getting risky at leaving this longer. Nose is earthy and lightly leathery. Palate has decent fruit still and very light acid. Some simple cherry fruit. Finish is medium length with perhaps some of that leather or tobacco quality.
