June 30, 2011 - Great wine. Solid flavor and not too flat. Deep and rich. Cedar and dark berries.

February 7, 2009 - Not bad. Reminds me of a lot of Jumilla wines in the price range. Good mid week wine for $10.

November 7, 2008 - Didn't realize it had been so long since I last tried this. Has changed quite a bit. The great fruit is still there, but there's more earthy, animal flavors usually associated with mourvedre that have started coming out. Still quite fresh. Does a finish with a little heat. I wonder if this might start coming apart at the seems in the near future, because it pushes a lot of edges, but a great value right now.

October 7, 2008 - Pop and pour:
Nose: Indeed, as this grape is related to Mourvedre, this wine smells like some Cotes du Rhones I’ve had minus the Syrah. Instead of the spicy and peppery notes carried in Rhone wines, this carries with it a dark and slightly sour/bitter blackberry component in droves, and is carpeted over with a very small amount of smooth plum notes. There’s also a little bit of a bug spray component to it – I have no better way to describe it, but it’s not necessarily that unpleasant. Smells like it may prove to be a bit too acidic or bitter on the palate, but let’s have a look…
Palate: Indeed this wine does prove to be a bit sour and almost having an alkaline taste to it. That said, there is a bit of blackberry and earthy loam in the back, which doesn’t quite redeem the wine but makes it more interesting. Again, there’s a thin but present smoother flavor on top, slightly sweeter than the bitter alkaline tastes.
Finish: The finish is 5-10 secs long, and also sour. It is moderately dry, but leaves the mouth with a bit of an undesirable taste.
As much as it sounds like I bash this wine, it’s not terrible – it does carry some Mourvedre flavors, but with those flavors it also carries some other flavors which are much less desirable.
After two days, the more pungent and phenolic components have toned it down a bit, and the wine is more palatable. Not great by any means, but much better than it was. -

June 13, 2008 - Interesting grape, I am not sure that I have had this before. It is not complicated, but for the price it is surprisingly balanced. Good color, not overly alcoholic, smooth drinking. I must say that I am enjoying this wine--it is tasty and refreshing. For 10 bucks, which I think I forgot I paid for it for a second, this is worth a second look. Drink now for sure, this wont get much better with age.
