Community Tasting Notes 2

March 22, 2023 - The 1961 Langoa Barton still requires 20-30 minutes in the decanter to show its best (en magnum at least) with a nose of cherry hard candy, rhubarb, rose, red licorice, and freshly cut sod. There’s still terrific aromatic volume in the soaring bouquet and the flavorful palate is matched by a piercing (but lovely) acidity. With a medium minus body and, velvety tannin, this is easy to pair with food though it’s not overbearing on its own. The palate adds notes of beef blood and mineral which complement the cherry and rose elements and make this a particularly nice pairing with dry-aged beef. A lingering, friendly finish.

December 3, 2016 - The 1961 Langoa Barton still displays a healthy deep garnet color, and a bouquet of cedar, sweet cassis and earthy spice. On the palate the wine is nicely balanced with good inner sweetness, but it is clearly in gentle decline, lacking the vibrancy of fruit and the intense and authoritative flavours of a great 1961. Larger format bottles may be better.
