September 1, 2023 - Light to medium garnet. Very interesting nose leaps from the glass with rich darkish-red fruit, woodsy herbs, oregano, dark spice with some toast (that I'd imagine lessens in time). Strong minerality and a creamy texture are initial impressions of the palate, balanced late with the acidity. Not showing tons of fruit right now, some under-ripe raspberry.
Update: better on night 2. Palate has some white pepper / cote rotie vibes; nose is still very alive. While the palate is tight right now, this still has to be just about the best bottle of Burg you can get for $33 in August 2023.
