February 18, 2024 - Heeding my own advice, I decanted this for around 90 minutes before pouring into Grassl 1855s. Dark cherry, a roasted/coffee note, and pronounced fennel on the nose. Lots of tannin and good acid on the palate. This really opened up aromatically after 30 minutes in-glass and was lovely through the rest of the night. Did best with food given the structure. No rush.

February 17, 2024 - Drank beside 2006 Tondonia Reserva. Could absolutely feel the kinship, with the Enfield having far more vibrant fruit being the younger of the two. But all the great Rioja notes are still there. I personally preferred the Enfield, which I think was the runaway consensus of the night. just so sad I only was allocated one!

January 7, 2024 - Way too early. Wish I had read some reviews before popping…. This will be good in a few years. There is some really interesting black cherry, dark chocolate, coffee, and cedar on the nose. The palate is closed for business though — even on Day 2. Try again 2027?

September 25, 2023 - Double decanted and poured into Grassl 1855s around 45 minutes later. Initially the nose was all tart cherry and otherwise closed. The palate was dominated by tannin. With time, the nose opened to show more licorice/anise on the nose with some tobacco. The palate brought red berries and spice; good acid. But, the tannins really dominated, giving the wine a sort of grumpy demeanor at this stage. I'm going to let my remaining bottles sit for a while and may try one with a lengthier decant next time around.

August 20, 2023 - Earthy aroma -- think of muddy leather boots -- followed by flavors of orange and cranberry, with a short finish. Light body, more acid than tannin. I enjoyed the orange-cranberry flavor, but I was expecting more from a wine that had six years of barrel aging (and that costs $65).
