March 8, 2024 - Medium pale ruby red with pink-purple rim. Unripe raspberry, strawberry, red cherry, cotton candy, stalk, wood, wild flowers, pebbles, honeycomb, chocolate and Kit Kat. Medium-light bodied, medium-high acidity, medium tannin, medium structure, medium alcohol and medium honey finish.
This 2021 was a difficult vintage. Relatively light bodied for Y. Clerget Bourgogne when compared to earlier vintages. Unripe fruits and even hint of greenness from the stalk.
Economics is dictated by supply and demand. When supply is low while demand is high, prices go up. Due to limited supply and generally strong demand on good producers like Domaine Y. Clerget, I would avoid this 2021 vintage across the board due to imbalance of quality vs price. To clarify, I paid USD37 for 2020 Y. Clerget Bourgogne a year ago and USD57 for the 2021 vintage of the same bottle recently. 2020 was so much better, yet 2021 was 35% more expensive but a lot less quality. Nothing to do with the producer, but just nature and economics.
