January 26, 2024 - Another bottle because I forgot we already tried this one in August. Thin on opening with very little Chard character, opened up a bit after 30 minutes, but still pale. Not a candidate for #3 House.

December 9, 2023 - Sourced entirely from assorted blocks within the Chalone Vineyard, the 2021 Estate Chardonnay was aged for 12 months in French oak barriques (40% new) and allowed to undergo full malolactic conversion. Light golden in color, it offers an aromatic profile of baked apples, white peaches, jasmine, brioche, vanilla and spicy oak. Medium-bodied, low-to-medium in acidity and with fairly well-integrated alcohol (despite being listed as 14.8%), it delivers ripe, woody flavors comparable to the nose. Solid on the mid-palate and concluding with a buttery, medium-length finish, this is a wine that will appeal to those who enjoy Chardonnay done in an oaky, New World style. For my palate, a little less oak and a bit more acid would have resulted in something more interesting. Drink now-2027.

August 20, 2023 - A decent Chard from a famous vineyard, but we didn't like it as much as Duckhorn in the same price range. Kind of shallow and sharp, didn't show us the full Chard palette that we like. Not a buyer here.

August 2, 2023 - Monterey, CA chardonnay, and a good one especially at the price point. Really a QPR home run. To me this wine definitely is chardonnay, smells chardonnay and tastes chardonnay. Certainly the new world influence, but not overly oaky by any stretch.

May 24, 2023 - Judgement of Paris Tasting and Dinner (V. Mertz - Omaha, NE): Not the producer it once was however it was fun to throw this into the mix, considering the history. An outlier compared to the other whites in the line-up tonight, this had an enormous floral bouquet that made it almost unrecognizable as Chardonnay. The fruit set was there but the acid was lower and had this been served blind to me, I probably would have guessed a Northern Rhône white variety. Not a bad wine per se, however it was my least favorite of the night. Drink now.
