April 9, 2014 - I almost rated this wine as flawed because the foil was stuck to the bottle and the cork had obviously seeped. But, the cork was still soft and pliable and there were no off aromas on the cork. The bottle was decanted off the sediments and tasted immediately. The color did not show its age and was a very clear garnet color with no browning on the edges. Complex aromas of spice and cherries mingling with a slight mossy earthiness met the nose. There was an ever so slight hint of volatile acidity in the nose. The palate has definitely changed over the years. There are virtually no tannins left and the intensity of the fruit has diminished leaving a slightly acidic delicate flavor profile behind. A bit of peat and wood hits the tongue on the mid palate which may be a slight out of balance flaw. But there was just enough cherry left to tickle the sides of my tongue.

September 13, 2013 - First glass through a venturi was tight, not revealing much of anything, with astringent, powdery tannins. Took 2+ hours of decanting for it to open up and for the tannins to fully integrate, but once it did, it was impressive. Aroma of cherry, cranberry, menthol, warm vanilla. Dried cranberries, ripe plum, followed by hints of spice and chocolate, finishing with meaty, smoky plum and caramel.

March 13, 2011 - First night the wine showed muted but nice dark fruits and some floral aspect, with a mouth watering sour cherry flavor I enjoyed. I felt like this wine fell apart by the second night however, and offered little more than tart, sour fruit. Somewhat disappointed.

January 29, 2011 - Needed an hour in the decanter. Tannic initially but opens up to bold fruit, green flavors, and some minerality as it moves back the palate. Overall very nice and drinking fairly well.

March 23, 2010 - Full fruit and smoke on the nose. A creamy texture at first taste with a short finish. Drank after 6 hours of decanting also. Wine held its shape but lacked the fruit flavor after too long. I would suggest an hour or two to allow wine to open up and hold the fruit flavor.
