August 4, 2017 - 1990’s Late Bottled Vintage Ports (Seattle, Washington): Unfiltered. Some cherry and mint on the nose. Light prune notes and some red fruit on the mid-palate. A touch of heat on the long finish.

January 27, 2012 - I don't drink enough Port to give a very formal or informative note, but man is this a good drink! Recommended by a sommelier friend of mine back in '06 and have had it in my cellar ever since. Opened this on a Friday night for a cigar by the fire pit and both me and my father-in-law loved it. Definitely more of a red wine-tasting port than a sherry-like port, if that makes any sense. Back when I first had this in 2006 it was a bit tomato'ish like the note below referenced, but that has gone away as it has come together and turned into a complex, well-balanced, semi-sweet and very enjoyable port. Wonderful! Would buy again in a heart beat.

January 2, 2011 - Decanted 7 hours. The color is still very dark and more in line with a 10 year old VP than an 18 year old LBV. This is just starting to show some secondary lavender, violets, and licorice one the nose yet still retaining some boysenberry as well. Slightly more than medium bodied on the palate, with licorice, boysenberry, grape, and an earthiness component showing up late. Solid tannins and with a lot of acidity keeping it fresh as well. This seems to be in a transitory stage where the secondary characteristics are now starting to develop and the primary ones have not totally gone away yet. Quite a treat and by no means at peak yet, this is an LBV that will reward another 5-10 years of cellaring before it reaches it peak.

April 23, 2006 - A bit tomato-ish on the mid-palatte, which is typical (at least for me) of LBV (and even moreso ruby ports, which I have always found intolerable and undrinkable). The SW92 is okay, but I really didn't enjoy it. A bit of an effort to finish, really. I found myself wondering "why am I even drinking this?", which usually is a bad sign. It didn't seem to have much age to it yet, so we'll see how it does after a few days in the fridge... Note to self: do not buy any more LBV. Update: after sitting in the fridge for another five days, the LBV has started to smooth out and lose the tomato flavor, and is drinking quite nicely. I'd say more like an 89 at this point, which goes to show you that ports will last quite a long time and improve after you open them, as long as you don't decant them before putting them back in the fridge... This will last another 5- 10 years, I think. I had an 86 Warre's not too long ago and that had gone quite tawny, but the SW seems to have better breeding...

January 8, 2006 - Still very young. Quite primary but seemed a bit flabby. Will not open another for a couple of years.
