Community Tasting Notes 4

December 31, 2015 - Golden color. Stones, white flowers, perfumed hazelnuts. 40 second finish. Spectacularly evolved. Amazing combination with homemade macaroni and cheese.

July 29, 2008 - 1996 White Burgs at the SF Vintners Club (Carnellian Room, SF, CA): Ox nose with vanilla and hazelnut. Some life, with mineral and lemon- but definite 'prem-ox' character

July 16, 2008 - Very advanced, dark yellow. Marmalade nose. All fruit, butterscotch and marmalade and no freshness or minerality. Not particularly good bottle. Almost like an overripe californian chardonnay on its way down. Someone thought it was oxidized and I think he was right

July 4, 2004 - The 1996 Puligny-Montrachet Les Desmoiselles was a green gold colour - actually fairly light in colour; the aromas were deep and penetrating - some oatmeal cereal, along with citrus - orange peel, and some sweet oak; full bodied, with excellent acidity - lemony, with a solid mineral-washed stone element; moved on to some clove and hazelnut flavours; very long on the finish - lingering for a very long time - where the citrus and mineral carried through under a light oak overlay. This wine was outstanding - showing absolutely no signs of ageing, and with a seeming potential to last for many years.
Some concerns had been expressed by others that the 1996 white Burgundies are ageing too quickly, however I could not detect any premature ageing on this wine whatsoever.
