April 24, 2023 - From Serbia. 70% pinot grigio, 30% sauvignon blanc, fermented in a 3000L concrete sphere, ~300 cases produced. Pours a light yellow which darkens to pale gold with air. Heady, musky aromas of lychee, quince, overripe apples, finishing with a lovely citrusy minerality. This is an interesting and clearly "natural" wine with minimal sulfites and should probably be stored cold. The winemaking notes don't say so, but I think this has some extended skin contact, though not to the extent of their S/O. My bottles all have protruding corks which tend to pop out if left loose on the bottle for a few hours, so there is clearly some lingering "activity" in these bottles, though there is little to no spritziness. Reminds me a bit of a Basque cider, as there is a very apple-y quality to this wine, some funk, and the same refreshing feel. I really enjoyed it, my wife not at all, and I can see how this would be a polarizing wine.
