July 16, 2023 - 2021 was a challenging vintage for the vignerons, not only the devastating flood bit also lots of mildew due to the wet summer season and the fact that vignerons lost a couple of days of nurturing the vineyards.

In 2021 Bertram-Baltes didn‘t fill any of their Grand Crus Goldkaul, Trotzenberg and Mönchberg and chances are high you find some of it in the Dernauer village wine.

Nose is reductive and very herbal almost green and with a touch of raspberry. Palate is super refreshing, juicy and salvating with ultra fine tannins and a lifted soft mouthfeel. Alcohol is quite low with 11.5%. Very unique Pinot Noir style and highly recommended.

July 9, 2023 - Visited Julia the first day after they re-opened their tasting room, the entrance was still in construction after the flood hit the Ahr - a sad story but glad they managed and got back even stronger.

Really beautiful Ahr Spätburgunder, very terroir driven; Dernauer has a more iron-like quality in comparison to the Ahrweiler. It's more slate driven. Tastes of young red berries, forest floor, sulfur (struck match smell) which sounds strange but it really sets it apart from everything else. No wood, only stainless steel.

Still very fresh but can profit from more bottle age (maybe 2-3 years), although it's still nice at the moment. Drink slightly cooled.

    91-92 points.

It is really a lot on the reduction and for a long time on the nose ! with popcorn even stronger sensation... like matches...

It needs a good 15 minutes to have the fruit coming in, little red berries, cranberry juice, raspberry, a hint of spicy earth smell

Palate is quite thin, with med- body and really soft tannins, but fruits and spices hold pretty well the mid palate. It s medium length, but savory and tasty, with a grippy bite.

Quite an interesting wine, a bit thin, it shows probably a lighter vintage style.

June 6, 2023 - Popped & poured. Medium ruby colour. Red fruit, forest berries, raspberry, red cherry, blackberry, cherry yoghurt. spice, and smoky minerality, with fresh, medium-level acidity, soft tannin, and very good length. Light- to medium-bodied, with a smooth, creamy, yoghurt-like texture. Well-balanced and easy, but with sufficient interest. Only 11.5% ABV. Very drinkable. A lovely Pinot!
