February 4, 2024 - La Festa del Barolo Masterclass (The Pool, NYC): The Massara is excellent. On the nose, I found beautifully sweet dark red berry fruit, fresh roses, and menthol, a very classic expression of Nebbiolo. On the palate, it's also full of freshness with fresh red florals and red fruit tones, with an appealing sweetness to the fruit. However, texturally, the wine is a bit less impressive as it's massively tannic and in need of time for the tannins to integrate. Castello di Verduno is clearly one of the producers that's moved upwards, as the '18 Massara was also impressive last year.

February 3, 2024 - Festa dal Barolo 2019 Masterclass (The Pool, Manhattan): Festa dal Barolo Masterclass

Floral and red fruited with distinct savory- herbal notes on the nose. Midweighted and sapid with more of the same fruit and savory on the palate. Overall a complex mid weighted wine with great clarity and excellent palate presence. Long on the back end with ripe fine tannins. Youthful and with real promise. This was my pleasant surprise of the tasting and I will seek this out. 94

February 3, 2024 - Vinous 2019 Barolo Masterclass (The Pool Restaurant, NYC): [First time at La Festa for this winery. Her mom was from Verduno, her dad from Barbaresco. So they make both.]
Elegant. More in the Burlotto style than Fratelli Alessandria style. Somewhat austere at this point, but should flesh out over time. 92-94

February 3, 2024 - 2019 Barolo Masterclass at La Festa del Barolo (The Pool, New York): Pale ruby reddish color. Ripe fruit aromas with a dash of green and increasing high tones. Medium weight. Very citric with a very nice mixture of dark fruit and soil with excellent acidity and earthy tannic finish that is not as austere as some of the preceding wines. Restrained, subtle, nicely complex, and very good flow. Excellent potential overall.
