Community Tasting Notes 6

December 21, 2023 - First note since 2011? I don't drink much Chateauneuf-du-Pape, but when I do, it's usually Eric Texier! Just a great wine with a gloriously hedonistic nose of rasperry compote, musky flowers, dark savory tones, piercing celery seed, and truffles. There's a roasted/surmaturité note in there but it blends in nicely and adds to the complexity to the bouquet. Medium-bodied, the wine is packed with flavor and shows terrific extract and lovely finesse, finishing just slightly bitter. This cost less at auction than the current release - always a nice trick to pull.

March 31, 2011 - Not a huge fan of C9DP, but I really liked this one. Good red fruit and spices, some floral hints, nice minerality. Fresh on the palate, affordable tannins and good length. I'd buy it again. Really enjoyable, a re-encounter with the AOC.

August 27, 2010 - Some Brett and funk - though not overwhelming. Enjoyable with food.

January 21, 2009 - This is a fine wine. It has a good floral bouquet. The taste is balance with flavors of berries with an undercurrent of tanin. It is not as heavy as many of these types of wines. I would definitley buy this wine again. In looking at my earlier tasting note of November 2008, my opinion of this wine has improved

November 13, 2008 - I am not very familiar with Rhone wines. This wine was pleasant but not unique. It tasted like a heavy burgundy. Clearly distinct from Bordeaux. Very pleasant, good fruit. Tannins were subdued. at $49.00 I have had wine more to my taste

(Eric Texier Chateauneuf-du-Pape) This had a striking nose of herbs, violets, garrigue, caraway and purple ripe fruits but not too ripe. Great balance on the nose. There was some serious tannin to this puppy and great focused x-mas spices. Lovely earthy sweet thick fruit. I don't like CDP but this was pretty awesome. Twenty Seven out of 16 stars.
