April 3, 2024 - Lots of fruit and vanilla. Great mouth feel. Needs time but a great wine.

March 22, 2024 - Fabulous after an hour airing out in the bottle. Each glass better than the last. Very juicy (as one would expect from a California Syrah) but it’s got hints of the musk that one associates with top class Rhône wines (Cornas, Hermitage). It doesn’t yet have the floral bouquet of a Côte Rotie but something tells me that with time it will come out. Classic Rhône olfactory characteristics will develop and ultimately outshine the delicious fruit. I also detect a little bit of menthol/spicy notes on the nose. Very fine grained tannins; no rough edges, even with such high alcohol.
The best California Syrah I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. And the score will only rise; I rate it 95 because with five or so years it’ll be better and I gotta leave room to account for the expected improvement to perfection or close to it!1 person found this helpful Comment -

January 20, 2024 - Decanted for four hours. Blueberry, dried strawberries, blonde coffee, white tea, mocha, kirsch, red plums, cookie dough and smoky alder wood. Exceptionally long and vibrant, the modern SQNs show acidity and lift, with all that depth and amazing structure. This has fibrous, satiny tannins. The middle remains round, and velvety. Astounding.
Not quite the legendary ‘19, but so close to perfection. An honor to enjoy. This will age without effort. In all actuality, this ends up being quite polished. Drink 2028 -.1 person found this helpful Comment -

January 20, 2024 - Drank over the course of two nights. Like the Grenache it’s approachable but best with several years age. The acid has been pushed up here in recent years but still clearly modern/ripe Central California Syrah. Plums, blackberry, cracked pepper, violets, iodine and mineral. This shares a more than usual similarity to high end Northern Rhone. No heat evident and wood seems balanced.
