Community Tasting Notes 3

March 19, 2024 - Retail $59. Heavy bottle (618g; 1lb 5.7oz). Under cork. This is another left-over from the Sixth Annual Blind Tasting of American Pinot Noir. Back in November, I scored this at 88 Points. No one's idea of a stellar wine. But. Whoa. Holy cow, and Yowza. While no one would describe this wine as "calm" it has certainly settled down a bit. And it is spectacular. Big fruit on the nose and on the palate, while called "The Sly One" it is by no means subtle or "under the radar". It is big, bold, bodacious, and beautiful. No, this will never be confused for a Nuits-St-Georges Premier Cru, it will lighten up any tasting focused on the wonderful bounty provided by California Pinot. I have not asked him, but I imagine this is one of James MacPhail's favorite Pinots to make, one where he can let Pinot "do its thing" without any constraints. 95 Points.

November 4, 2023 - The Sixth Annual Blind Tasting of American Pinot Noir (Houston, Texas): Retail $59. Dark, with a fairly shy nose of subtle fruit and a touch of earth. On the palate it is all blackberry Kool-Aid, with tons of fruit that comes off as sweet. A bit hot on the finish. 88 Points.

September 29, 2023 - Pobega’d. This is sexy wine. I wish the nose offered more of what is is doing with florals and damp earth but it has awesome and the palate and finish are both 10/10. The oak is perfect and I love the silky strawberries.
